Fall Weather Is Here! It's Time To Clean Up Your Makeup Collection
Every change of season is a good time to remember to do a major clean up of your makeup, skin care and beauty tools. When was the last time you actually did a thorough cleaning of your collection? Honestly. If you are like me and tend to put on a face in a hurry and run out the door without putting everything away, then you know it's time that you made time.

Taking care of your makeup and tools should be every beauty fan's priority, it's the investment that helps you look your best so keeping it neat and tidy is entirely worth it. Keeping your collection clean will also eliminate the risk of breakouts from bacteria. When seasons change I do a major wipe down of my vanity and take some cotton pads and swabs to clean my product and spritz lipsticks with sanitizer or wipe down or dip wands in 90% solution of alcohol. It also helps me determine what is or isn't working for me and I will make a notation of new colors or products that I should look to purchase while the new autumn trends are launching. Have you noticed how rich jewel tones are everywhere this fall? Love it!
There can also be build-up on dry powders that just need a gentle scrub with a dry tissue or scrapping if there's oil from a powder puff transferring on to the product. Clean or replace that too! Brushes and applicators are well known for causing break outs if they aren't cleaned daily after use, especially for cream and liquid based beauty products. They can be spritzed and wiped or gently washed with a facial cleanser.
I prefer to clean my stuff with a few drops of SNAP's gentle cherry extract All-Purpose Natural Concentrate Cleaner in a spray bottle with filtered water and a drop of hair conditioner. Keep an eye out for discolored or old product that has expired and toss it! Seriously, I've seen people hold on to practically useless compacts, if it's almost empty take it shopping with you so you can replace it with a similar product if you know it's not available anymore.

I don't recommend washing with baby shampoo or hair shampoo at all since the oils on brushes with natural fibers/hair can be stripped and become dry or rough from harsh detergents. If you don't have any of our SNAP in stock, use a facial cleansers that's made to clean makeup residue and body oil and dirt which is really old skin cells. I keep a sanitizing spray bottle of cleaner for quick cleans on my vanity and one in my kit for in between clients, besides makeup wipes that I use like a towel.
Wiping down your vanity and makeup compacts, tubes, and palettes can also be some great quality time for just being by yourself or invite a friend over to help make some fun girl time. You can read beauty magazines and plan a shopping trip to restock on items. Save money by sharing larger purchases and using beauty club coupons or sales. For instance, I like to buy makeup wipes from the wholesale club sometimes but that is usually an 6 or 8 pack, if you split it up with friends you can get a great deal and not be overstocked by sharing.
One more tip, never ever ever soak your makeup brushes or tools--unless they are metal for sterilizing like nail clippers. The bristles will loosen and fall out because the glue holding it together inside the brush's barrel will dissolve! Brushes can be expensive and should last for years if you get a good quality collection and take good care of them. They give you a flawless professional finish to your makeup application so that you can look your best!
Now get busy this weekend and share your clean up experience with me in the comments. Have fun and be smart beauty shopper and remember to look for cash back and hot deals on all of your new purchases!
