Social Shopping Concept In The News Acknowledges People Power
In the age of social networks, building communities, smartphones with apps, tablets and other personal-based technologies it's a given that businesses are adapting to these new concepts if they want to survive the economic downturn. Innovative ways to attract and retain consumers by utilizing these new tools will be a key factor to their success.
First there was Commerce with traditional business models, then E-Commerce peaked with the Dot Com boom and bust but is a staple in many industries now, which has grown into M-Commerce that utilizes mobile apps and is now evolving into We-Commerce for a "friend" based shopping experience. No longer are friends just heading off to the mall for a shopping day but now they can also share products via social networks such as Facebook and "Like" their favorites with links for purchasing.
Check out this video from Levi Jeans as they explain the concept:
I'm wondering about just how much product really is sold based on peer reviews and shared links? Sure "friends" share purely for social purposes with no hidden motives but the problem with that is that the friend sharing that link isn't getting anything for it, no kickback or extra discount off their next purchase or simple thank you. Wouldn't something given back for sharing be nice? Especially with everyone being so money conscious these days. I'm guilty of drip-marketing for my business' products and if my friend's have a business too I hope they promote it because I'd like to know so we can support each other.
When Market America introduced the Cash Back reward program and expanded it to include 1/2% for Referring Friends (which no one else is doing), it got me thinking about the revenue that consumers could generate by inviting each other. It may just be small change now but if you compare that potential to the volume of sharing on Facebook and monetize it with these kinds of incentives, it'd be better than clipping coupons and add up to considerable amounts of cash when the collective all shop via each other's links.
The link below is for an article that touches on the growing trend of social commerce and mentions Market America as a company to watch with the acquisition of Shop.com and integration of social platforms for personal branding and marketing. I think the time has come for great things to happen for MA distributors that are willing to adapt to these new technologies and concepts. Traditional Direct Sales and Network Marketing is still the backbone of MA but a new large facet has been cut and it's the finishing touch on this gem, so I had better get that upgrade to a Droid X and crank up my business growth with Social Shopping!
