Movie Review: The GLOW Project
I finally received my DVD copy of The GLOW Project and got to view it today alone, before my youngest daughter got home from a half day of school due to the parent-teacher conferences. It was about an hour and twenty minutes long with the same kind of inspiring background music as in The Secret which gave it some depth as it flowed through the idea of what a woman's GLOW is from each participant.
Some of the women had insightful & heartfelt things to say about how they realized that they were aspiring to reach their fullest GLOW potential and gave their touching stories of relationship, health, and financial problems they faced to get to where they are now. All of them are at a pinnacle of their success yet were as real and personable as anyone else you know. I shed a tear for certain segments, no crying but just empathized with their pain.
The point of this movie is definitely to inspire women from everywhere to realize they are more than they think or feel that they can accomplish or what others tell them they are or aren't. This is a great way to bring together a group of women and discuss the movie's objective to help each other aspire to be/do/have more from life. I think a showing for our female team members will do some good as this is a well intentioned "chick flick". hehe
As an entrepreneur that works from home, I have my own challenges stepping out there and growing my business, its hard for a shy person to ask for referrals & promote yourself but I make myself go to local networking events & give my 60 second commercial. It has really been a major advancement for me to achieve trainer which makes me speak in public, a childhood phobia, and hone my artistic beauty skills for Motives demos. I'm very detail oriented (translated as semi-OCD) and love to look things up or attend classes to further my knowledge and learn from others. You know the best advice I ever heard was that you should learn from other people's mistakes because it saves you from wasting your time, money and effort.
The GLOW Project is certainly something to share with other women that also have Mom Guilt or tend to undervalue their self-worth in some way, shape, or form. One of the women in the movie even said exactly what I've said recently about myself when I decided to find a P/T job. While figuring out what to apply for I was telling my husband that I've been home 20+ years raising kids, caring for our mothers--who have both passed on and have commercial art skills that I haven't used in the "real world".....who would want me to work for them?? I have zero job experience although I have plenty of management, caretaking, and business experience as a marketer, desktop publisher, customer manager and as owner for both the Market America home business and our repair shop which doesn't offer enough references to appeal to a human resources rep.
Perhaps the great realization that I had is that I do have great skills with a sense of creativity and can be an innovative professional that can make money on my own, it just requires my commitment to keep going. Entering a profile on LinkedIn's network helped me see that for myself. Needless to say after many applications and inquiries, I still do not have a j.o.b.---but then I'd rather just focus on MA and make Motives my job. The publicity that's in the works now is something I'm anticipating being the tipping point for my Motives career and generate that extra income that our household needs in this crappy economy & secures our future with residuals.
This Saturday I'll be at a new women's meetup at one of my favorite restaurants so I'm definitely going to mention this movie and see if the ladies want to watch it together. Guess I'll have to "step into my potential zone" and see what happens. Now should I bring up the Motives Color Quad "You Glow Girl" then or later?? The movie's website has notecards for sale with that exact saying!!! Gotta tie this in somehow tastefully and without stepping on any trademarks. Maybe a good "by the way, if you like that then you'll like this too......" Sounds good to me! ;D
UPDATE 11/15:
I forgot to post my rating!!! hehe My star rating for this movie is a ***1/2 out of four. I would've given more if they inspired me to take some sort of action or pay it forward or something like that. The Secret kinda did that for me, this GLOW movie was very moving but more inspired action would've been that tiny bit better.
