Learned Some Great Tips At The New Year's First Seminar
This past weekend was a local UnFranchise seminar with a trainer from PA. He has a background in the insurance industry and owned an agency while doing investment planning too. I had missed the conference call for this event so I did not realize what his occupational background was and that he had experience as an A.L. Williams, now known as Primerica. There were several people that I was wishin' had been in attendance to hear that. Figures...
I had taken fifteen pages of notes which is something I haven't done in a long time at a seminar. This gentleman had so many excellent examples for us to jot down. Its great to have someone spell out the "how to say it" techniques for the basics of the business, whether for retailing product or analyzing people as possibilities for the business. So many times I've heard that its about "listening" to what people say.....or don't say, and this time the trainer gave us sample conversations & experiences that he and the people in his organization have been in. It meant so much to me to hear that which is what had me writing so "fast and furious".
That's more of the kind of things that I need to put into practice. From now on while I'm engaging conversations with this info in my head I'll be able to sort thru people to find new partners without a MLM approach. The stupid thing is that I know what we're supposed to do after 9 yrs in MA(most of which I did next to nothing) but having someone like a mentor or skilled partner to learn prospecting from would've made a difference to me since I'm shy and had no communication skills whatsoever to begin with especially for business. Even my dear friends are nice enough to tell me that I suck at selling & recruiting, yeah gotta have great friends like that around ya know. For a long time though we really haven't had anyone skilled like that in our team or local area as a speaker. Most speakers & leaders have been low key types but no "superstars' for lack of a better term with that gift of gab.
And now, here I am about to conduct my first set of trainings for Motives. Certainly am pushing myself into being more of a leader & I have to thank my Motives trainer and the company for that. We need more English Motives Trainers out here....right now I'm it!! Having some sort of title is cool I must admit. I also liked feeling like the expert at the recent seminar & hearing about my upcoming trainings from the coordinator announced to the attendees. That got a few more people to grab applications from me and I needed to get a stack of fliers printed from the hotel's services, I had only brought a dozen from my home printer. Thankfullly one of my partners knew to ask the hotel and got it done for me.
There was also a segment about Goals for the New Year & for doing the business. Most of that info was already what I had planned but then he said to not only have copies of your goals with dates but to actually write them out twice a day, not just read them twice a day like we all thought. I always thought that a goal statement was just to be written once and read daily then updated periodically but not this guys's take on goals. He said that when you also write it out twice a day, it really makes you focus on making that goal a reality. That impressed many of the seminar attendees and you could hear a big "Ahaa" from the crowd.
Off to bed for now, how am I gonna work two long days in a row next weekend??!! Gotta go thru my lists tomorrow and call the hotel to check on my classroom.
